Look around you Americans. There are a significant number of people, Sarah Palin amongst them, who believe that America is declining into collapse — both spiritually and economically. They see grave, national dangers around every corner, that America has become a fallen nation which God is punishing and that their children are in danger of inheriting a ruined America.
Such people do not believe that Christianity is merely a religion. They believe that it is a reality and they want to make it your reality too. They want to put God into Government thereby ruling the country by God’s biblical law not man made ones. They would put God into your schools where students and teachers will be forced to pray and into business where employees will be encouraged to vote as “advised” by their employer and not by his own free will. “True believers” want more God in their lives and in your life too. Less Government and more God.
To do so they need a person in charge who professes to put God first — that everything else comes through and after Him.
Sarah Palin believes in her heart that she is that person — that God has opened doors for her and that she is merely following his call and that it would be a sin for her not to do so. Recently, during her tour Palin had the opportunity to speak over two dozen times with members of the media — mostly local news reporters — on what she claims were matters of “policy, politics, history and everything in between.”
I believe that Palin is alluding to the fact that she and others believe that the hand of God is the missing factor in Government and that in order to “get our country back on the right track” it is necessary to follow the “undeviating line that connects our history to our future.” That obedience to the laws of God will save the USA. She alludes to this meaning via the use of code words because she wishes to keep her true agenda hidden.
Of course, the discussion about God’s place in USA politics already took place more than two hundred years ago. Many of the founding fathers, that Palin loves to mention, agreed that God did not have a central role to play in politics. George Washington, a man widely recognised for his upstanding moral character, a war hero and the first American President believed that other religions should be tolerated. In 1790 he said:
The father of the Constitution, James Madison, believed that if religion dictated American Law that America would become a continent soaked in blood, much like Europe had been during the Crusades and other Holy Wars. Madison had much to say against the mixing of church and state including the following which he wrote in a letter to Edward Livingston, July 10th, 1822:
Freedom arises from the multiplicity of sects, which prevades America and which is the best and only security for religious liberty in any society. For where there is such a variety of sects, there cannot be a majority of any one sect to oppress and persecute the rest.
Moreover, issues such as abortion and gay marriage are the main concerns as far as christian conservative leaders are concerned and as the Republican party agrees with them on these issues the leaders and the christians who follow them unthinkingly adopt every position of the Republican party as their own. No matter how much it may hurt them in the end. After all, according to them, Jesus would vote Republican, wouldn’t he?
Many people ask why Patrick and I are so concerned about Sarah Palin. They think that it is odd that we as Europeans put so much energy and time into exposing her. The answer is simple. America is a powerful country whose influence reaches directly into the nooks and crannies of Europe’s own governments. Sarah Palin has a belief set that we believe is fundamentally dangerous not only to America but to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, and I think few will argue the fact, the Republican party especially has little problem in embracing as leader a person who is clueless of policy. Palin has the added allure of being deeply steeped in the religious supernatural via her claim of having been called by God to seek political office. The possibility exists, despite the polls against her, that Sarah Palin could be chosen as the future leader of the GOP. She may even run as a third party candidate. One thing we are certain of, Sarah Palin would run on a platform of hate and division the repercussions of which may effect not only the USA but a substantial part of the world. Our world. That for us is a good a reason as any to continue exposing her.
